Stemming the flow

Economy, law enforcement slow influx of illegals

At one point last year, illegal immigration was among the most important issues of the presidential campaign. The nation's reeling economy has not only shot past illegal immigration among the electorate's top concerns, it appears to be reducing the flow of foreign nationals across the nation's southern border.

A report released Thursday by the Pew Hispanic Center indicates there are fewer illegal immigrants in the United States than there were a year ago. The study doesn't address the cause of the decrease, but there's plenty of anecdotal and statistical evidence to suggest why.

  • For starters, illegals won't come here if they know there's no work.

The second part of the equation is ramped up law enforcement. Local and state governments have enacted new immigration laws and policies in response to constituents' demands, and the federal government has increased border security and raids on businesses following the collapse of amnesty legislation.

For example, an almost-formalized agreement between Las Vegas police and the federal government allows corrections officers to initiate deportation proceedings against illegals who are jailed on non-immigration offenses. Authorities in other metropolitan areas have entered similar partnerships with Immigration and Customs Enforcement to quickly rid communities of illegal immigrants who see fit to further break our laws.

And lawmakers in Nevada and elsewhere want to copy an Arizona statute that penalizes businesses for employing illegal immigrants, with the ultimate punishment of stripping their business licenses.

Several media outlets have reported an exodus of illegal immigrants from previously fast-growing, Western cities. Predominantly immigrant neighborhoods that were once bursting with residents now have plenty of apartment and rental home vacancies. Enrollment in the Clark County School District increased only 1 percent this year, its lowest rate of growth in years. Enrollment in several Arizona school districts has actually decreased.

No one wants to see the widespread hardships that have resulted from the country's economic woes. But they are proving, along with the law enforcement measures, that an effective way to keep out illegal immigrants is to deny them a reason to come here in the first place.

I have heard from other union guys about the illegals. They only care about union dues. They don't seem to care where they get them from. As for the guest worker thing, not until our unemployment is ZERO.

WHERE IS THAT BIRTH CERTIFICATE? wrote on October 04, 2008 03:02 PM: The man suing Sen. Barack Obama and the Democratic National Committee for proof of Obama's American citizenship is outraged that his own party – rather than just providing the birth certificate he seeks – would step in to silence him by filing a motion to dismiss his lawsuit.

As WND reported, prominent Pennsylvania Democrat and attorney Philip J. Berg filed suit in U.S. District Court two months ago claiming Obama is not a natural-born U.S. citizen and therefore not eligible to be elected president. Berg has since challenged Obama publicly that if the candidate will simply produce authorized proof of citizenship, he'll drop the suit.

    But RHG,

The illegal aliens only take jobs that Americans don't want.

What a bunch of BS, huh?

Vote out everyone who doesn't want to kick out every illegal aliens from our country.

No, I don't buy that "big lie" either. Americans don't have a problem working hard, I see it every day. They just aren't going to bust their butts for slave wages and neither are Mexicans for that matter. Oh, Mexicans will do hard labor and work cheap when they're trying to steal Americans jobs. But, once those jobs are stolen, they start making demands for higher wages too.

Be careful about accepting any kind of guest worker program.
Both Obama and McCain are talking about 300 thousand or more quest workers yearly for about five years. This is not much lower than the avg 500 thousand illegal aliens entering yearly now.

Plus the ability to track guest workers when their time up is very questionable and add fake ID’s and the illegal alien problem doesn’t change, but gets worse.

We need deportation of all illegals, and their anchor babies, and no quest worker programs.
Force Mexico a wealthy nation to invest in their own people so families don’t have to leave.
We must stop the Chicano history from being taught here influence Mexico to stop, as it’s full of hate white propaganda and claiming the southwest as mexico’s land.

A product of this history is the LA mayor.

As a guy in the construction trade I am sick and tired of being laid-off while I see some dude who I know is an illegal alien keep his job and I am talking about union jobs here. When you join a union like the carpenters union as an apprentice you are supposed to have a high school diploma and a birth certificate. At least that's what they require American citizens to have. No such requirement if you are hispanic, don't speak English and have no ID whatsoever outside of some matricula card. This is where the government and ICE can go next, the union halls and start enforcing the laws and purging these places of this illegal work force.
