LETTERS: With economists like these, who needs enemies?

To the editor:

Did all the economists inside and outside the government get their diplomas off the Internet or from the back of a comic book? Friday's newspapers were filled with stories about how surprised everyone was about the country's latest unemployment numbers.

  • Why? Nothing is being done to stimulate the economy, other than lots of talk.

The "stimulus" bill was mostly pork. The part allocated for stimulus mostly hasn't been spent. Business owners, especially the small business owners who create jobs, are afraid of higher taxes and more regulations. Consumers are worried about jobs and aren't spending.

And the smart economists didn't see this coming? Huge jumps in housing prices, no consumer saving, consumer debt constantly rising. But no one thought that was a problem.

If we continue to rely on the people who got us here, we better expect to simply get more of what we've already gotten: trouble.

    The god of socialism

    To the editor:

In response to Jack Corrick's Friday letter to the editor, "Theocratic thugs":

Theocracy is not the only god one can worship. Socialism is another. We seem to be headed there.

Would the Founding Fathers approve of what they would see now? Two hundred-plus years of the theory of smaller government has been changed to let the government do it all.

Mr. Corrick asked: "How many of the (Iranian) protesters who recently felt the heavy hand of their government cheered when the Islamic rulers took power? How many cheered at the takeover of the U.S. embassy and the holding of Americans prisoner?"

Iran's protesters look too young to have been around then, but if they were, I'll give them an excuse: "I was only eight years old when that all happened."

If President Obama can use that excuse to defend his association with Bill Ayers, why can't Iranians use it to excuse the hostage taking?

    Dumb move

    To the editor:

If Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is resigning to pursue a 2012 run for president, she is dumber than we first thought.

The governor may be able to see Russia from her home, but she definitely can't see the White House. Even Republicans can see her for what she is: a quitter who lacks intelligence and common sense.

Fair and Balanced Fred wrote on July 08, 2009 03:11 AM: Palin's resignation statement was "incoherent, bizarre and juvenile. The text, as posted on Gov. Palin's official website, uses 2,549 words and 18 exclamation points."

"Gov. Palin capitalized words at random - whole words, like 'TO,' 'HELP,' and 'AND,' and the first letter of 'Troops.'

"She put her son's name in quotations marks. Why? Who knows. She writes, 'I promised efficiencies and effectiveness!?' Was she exclaiming or questioning? I get it: both! And I don't even know what to make of a sentence that reads: *((Gotta put First Things First))*

"Ponder the fact that Rupert Murdoch's Harper Collins publishing house is paying this, umm, writer millions for a book. Ponder that and say a prayer for Ms. Palin's editor.

"I was struck by Palin's spectacularly rambling and infantile prose. It bespeaks a rambling and infantile mind. But perhaps not. Perhaps this is all a ruse. Perhaps Gov. Palin wants us to believe she's an intellectual featherweight who is slightly shallower than an actor on High School Musical. Maybe she's trying to throw us off the trail.

"Naah. A lot of people thought that about George W. Bush. He couldn't be so block-headed, they said. He couldn't be as childish and churlish as he came off. Oh yes he could. And so, too, might Ms. Palin be as vapid and puerile as her inane statement suggests.

"We will all KNOW the "rest of the Story" *((SOON!))*"

tweedledee wrote on July 07, 2009 10:28 PM: Yup, patrick is an attorney all right. Name calling, innuendo, misleading or trick statements. Lot of words, not much said. Loves to infuriate people. I do like the part where he says he has no problem with people accepting money from organizations and then in is his devious way condemns the practice for certain organizations. Buy a gallon of gas from Exxon and your in the oil companies pocket.

As far as the statement that humans are a contributor to global warming, of course it's true. Do we need to worry about? No say the skeptics. It's obvious from F&B Freds rants that anyone who does not belong to the Al Gore "were all going to die if we don't do something now" crowd is not worthy of living. So Fred, if your fingers are not worn out from typing all those rants do some research on Dr. John Christy or Dr. Roy Spencer. Try the web site http://icecap.us and look at the credentials of those posting articles about the fiction big Al and his buddies crank out. There are plenty of genuine experts and organizations out there telling a different story. Big Al was worth $2 million when he left office and now he's worth $100 million. Climate change sure changed his bank account.

There was a petition signed by 31,000 scientists that rejects the climate change agenda. Over 9000 had PHD's. The Al Gore crowd analysed the petition and found a great many of those signing were not climate scientists or scientists in a relevant field. The Gore crowd gloated over this one. Problem is, a great many of those "experts" in the "I Love Al Gore" camp bleating about doing something now and fast don't qualify either. Only trying to be fair and balanced Fred.

Why don't you guys get a job, get a life, get a girlfriend and move out of your parents basement. This was a good blog but these two idiots have really messed it up.

riotact wrote on July 07, 2009 09:32 PM: Fred, this will be my fifth post in this string of posts. I have re-read each post (perhaps you should, too), and fail to see where you can conclude I am "self-absorbed", "narcissistic", "special", or "superior" to those involved in this discussion string. Only one of these posts provided an opinion - the very first one in which I opined you didn't possess an ounce of cognitive sophistication or critical thinking skill. Of course, your last several postings have done little to convince me or (judging by the posts of many others) anybody else otherwise.

I have not given MY opinion regarding the causes of Global Warming/Climate Change. I have only pointed out that there is plenty of scientific evidence and opinion which counter that of Patrick, Al Gore, you, and others of like-minded thought. Get over it.

You say: "I care nothing about what "riotact" thinks. . ." Really? For a guy who doesn't care about what I have to say, you sure are devoting a lot of energy to attacking it. I ask again . . . Why?

Mike wrote on July 07, 2009 08:50 PM: Fred, do you ever actually take off the adoring puppy dog eyes and listen to what your hero says. He says nothing. He just keeps quoting himself on what he said yesterday. I'm not a Palin fan but, I gotta tell ya man he hasn't shown he can do anything well except read and recite. So yes in a debate in the Alaskan Wilderness she would B-slap him if there wern't enough generators to keep him propped up/primed with things to say. Most of the people I work with voted for your hero also and they look more depressed everyday. I myself do not put my trust in a man or a slogan such as HOPE/CHANGE so even though I am the out numbered loser conservative, I'm the content one. Go figure.

Why are libs always mad anyway?

You need a break man. Youve been at it for sixteen hours. We all know you "Love BO" and "Hate Sarah". So throw PATRICK off your lap and go have some fun. We'll get em again tomorrow.

    I AM A GRANDIOSE NUT wrote on July 07, 2009 08:02 PM: F&B Fred:

You keep saying that the other side got b-slapped in the last election. Well in a way that is true but just because the dems have 60 votes in the Senate and a majority in the house doesn't mean anything is going to get done. I'm sure with all of your vast knowledge of our political system you know that at least 12 of the Democratic Senators are blue dog Democrats and tend to vote more to the conservative side especially on economic issues.

I don't think your hero OBAMA is really going to get much done except to take us farther into debt. Many of the Dems have already expressed doubts on health care and cap and trade. OBAMA made many promises during the campaign that he has failed to make good on.

    1. warrantless wiretapping
    2. off sight secret prisons
    3. getting out of Iraq
    4. stopping torture
    5. closing GITMO
    6. allowing the prisoners to be tried in court
    7. TRANSPARENCY of his administration

I guess once he got in to office he saw what he liked and decided to keep all of the power that George and Dick grabbed.

By the way Fred for someone who knows everything OBAMA it might be of interest to you next time you are trying to b-slap someone on IQ points that you know the correct name of the school that he was a professor. It was the University of Chicago Law School and not Brown.

Perhaps we should all start checking everything you post. Be careful next time to make sure all of your information is correct before you start calling people names.

Fair and Balanced Fred wrote on July 07, 2009 07:24 PM: "Obama said 57 states."

    Heinz has 57 varieties.

Obama was a professor of Constitutional Law at Brown.

Palin barely earned a bachelor's in home-economics from four different, incredibly uncompetitive institutions.

    Please.

The cons can't lead, so they consistently mislead. Look where it has gotten them.

Under Obama's sleep-deprivation of the campaign, the America-haters of the right keep focusing on this one mis-statement to pretend Obama does not actually posses twice the I.Q. of the Palin flake, Caribou Barbie. She can field dress Bullwinkle, but boy is she DUMB!

Remember, according to the misleading cons she is ready to be entrusted with the nuclear codes.

The cons can't lead so they consistently mislead.

That's why they were b-slapped in the last election.

Fair and Balanced Fred wrote on July 07, 2009 07:12 PM: "riotact" sez: "For a guy who doesn't care what anybody thinks . . . "

I care A LOT about what smart people think.

Therefore, I care nothing about what "riotact" thinks who cannot provide any citations in support of its self-absorbed, narcissistic assumptions.

Please, "riotact" tell us now why we should heed your opinion on ANYTHING?

    Why?

Because you are "special" and superior and have narcissistic personality disorder like Sarah Palin?
