LETTERS: Have they even read the bills they vote on?

To the editor:

Every one of us should write our congressoinal representatives to ask the following about pending legislation.

  • Have you read the entire bill? Do you know how it will effect your constituents? Have you sought comments from constituents? Do you know how much it will cost over the next 10 years? Do you know who will pay this and if tax increases will be required?

If they cannot answer yes to each question, ask them to vote to postpone the bill or vote against the bill.

    Meeting room

    To the editor:

The chickens have come home to roost. Las Vegans who helped put President Obama into office are beginning to reap what they sowed.

The Democrat-controlled government is now telling members of federal agencies to avoid meetings in Las Vegas even though per diem rates in other approved cities, such as Chicago, are much higher.

Yet we hear not a peep from our illustrious Sen. Harry Reid.

    Great one

    To the editor:

Kudos to the commentary by Larry Elder in Thursday's Review-Journal regarding Sammy Davis Jr. as the world's greatest entertainer vs. "Wacko Jacko."

Sammy gave outstanding performances in several movies and TV shows.

Other than music videos, did the "Gloved One" ever appear in a movie? Sammy had to endure racial bias but he was never presented as a freak.

Thanks, Sammy, your talents aren't forgotten.

    Tax bill

    To the editor:

My 2009 Clark County property tax statement shows that while my property decreased in value by 30 percent, my taxes increased about $80 for the year.

At this rate, if my property became worthless i would pay about $250 more each year than I did when it was assessed at its all-time high.

Thanks again to our great politicians and the folks who voted against property tax limits. There is nothing as great as raising taxes in a dead economy.

I wonder if we will see the same outrage all the liberal nuts had over John the perv Ensign

Democratic Sens. Kent Conrad and Chris Dodd were told from the start they were getting VIP mortgage discounts from one of the nation's largest lenders, the official who handled their loans has told Congress in secret testimony.

Another Democrat Governor was named today by the Call girl that serviced the New York Governor

Selective Outrage by the democrats is very telling of their low class

Selective reporting by the Liberal Media is criminal

Sammy Davis was in the middle of a horrible era of racial bias and faced personal problems and provided outstanding entertainment to all races. He will continue to entertain many for years to come thanks to technology.

As far as the greatest or the king I believe Sammy certainly is on the top. MJ and those around him was his worst enemy.

Possibly Sammy had some good friends that helped him at times get thru so much.
An era of entertainers that were friends, we will never see again.

virgo9 wrote on July 27, 2009 02:46 PM: I am sorry Exorcist, but I am unable to come up with the bill number, however when Mayor Goodman contacted Rahm Emanuel's office Friday about the memo, Emanuel told Mayor Goodman that the boycott stemmed from this particular bill. Upon looking up the bill number it shows in the Congressional Records, that it was passed unanimously by the Senate (yes that included Harry Reid) in 2006, banning the use of 3rd party locations for internal training by goverment [sp] agencies. Of course if you don't wish to believe Rahm Emanuel or Oscar Goodman, that is fine, but then it leds to the question of why either or both of them would lie about the information. May I suggest Exorcist before you accuse someone of offering zero proof of allegations, you take out a moment of head spinning and pea soup hurling to check the facts.

Exorcist wrote on July 27, 2009 02:11 PM: dennis#1 believes that congress was controlled by the democratic party from "2006 onward"...how dumb he is. Frist was Majority leader of the Senate in 2006 and Hastert was Speaker of the House in 2006. Stupid people! 2007 onward I accept, but not 2006! Hey 2006 is when virgo9 accuses the republican congress passed "a bill unanimously by the Senate (yes that included Harry Reid) in 2006, banning the use of 3rd party locations for internal training by goverment [sp] agencies.", yet he offers zero proof of his allegation.

AH, HELEN! THE PERSON WHO CLAIMS SHE REGISTERED A $150,000 MOTORCOACH IN WYOMING FOR $60 WHEN THE WY WEBSITE ESTIMATES THAT THE COACH WOULD COST $723 A YEAR TO REGISTER. WHAT ELESE DOES HELEN LIE ABOUT? BUSH AND THE REPUBLCIANS OF 2001-2006 OWN ALL OF THIS!

Colon Pow, you may mean well, but it was the screaming members of Sun City, like HELEN, who were screaming for property tax relief! There is NO benefit for the NSEA or CCSD to reduce revenues from property tax....logic would take you to that conclusion.

Colon Pow wrote on July 27, 2009 12:58 PM: Don't even thank the legislators for the lack of a property tax cap - blame the NSEA and the CCSD.

The school unions made it their sole duty to make sure that the ballot initiative never made it onto the ballot despite garnering enough signatures.

While Horsford, Buckley, and Raggio are largely responsible, the NSEA and CCSD call the shots. I think they are terrorist organizations.

As for Bush vs. Obama or whatever. Bush was the worst president EVER, period. Obama sucks big-time, but has a long way to go to eclipse Bush, but he's off to a great start. Bush started the job of bankrupting the country, Obama is closing the deal.

This health care thing is the scariest of all though... note that members of congress, the senate, and the president are all "excluded" from having to join this sorry health care. If it's so great for us, why isn't congress and Mr. Obama involved?

douglas wrote on July 27, 2009 12:35 PM: as to legislators reading bills...

anyone doubt that these professional pant seat polishers read their own household bills before paying ?

the functional difference is "their" as opposed to those loaded onto the backs of joe sixpack taxpayers.

    S. Summerlin wrote on July 27, 2009 11:36 AM: How long are we going excuse the actions of this government simply because they claim "Bush Did It Too" or it was "Bush's Fault"...

If Bush was so bad in the Democrat's eyes, why don't we repeal this policy ASAP?

The ANSWER: It is easier to excuse than to take responsibility... too bad we all lose.

HELEN WEILS wrote on July 27, 2009 10:45 AM: TO SHANE, DO YOU REALLY THINK I'M DUMB ENOUGH TO POST UNDER MY REAL NAME????
THOSE UNION GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES AND THE FIREMAN WOULD BURN MY HOUSE DOWN.
    IDIOT!!!!!

YES, I DO OWN A HOME IN SUN CITY SUMMERLIN. AND A BUSINESS IN WYOMING.

OBAMA OWNS ALL OF THIS. YOU DUMMYCRATS ARE SOOOOOO IGNORANT. BLAME BUSH, BLAME BUSH. BUSH NEVER SAID 'DON'T GO TO VEGAS' BUT HE WAS SURE QUICK ENOUGH TO COME HERE TO PULL MONEY FROM THE RESIDENTS FOR HIS CAMPAIGN.

IF OBAMA IS SOOOOOO WONDERFUL, THEN WHY DOESN'T HE RESCIND THE POLICY????
