Make lawmakers live with what they create

To the editor:

Does anyone else remember the phrase, "What's good for the goose is good for the gander"?

I've just e-mailed Sens. John Ensign and Harry Reid and Rep. Dina Titus about the proposed health care legislation.

I've asked each of them to take a pledge to support members of Congress giving up their health care plan and enrolling in whatever it is they create in the new legislation.

To me, their response will tell a lot about what they think of what they create. Are they a privileged class or just one of us?

What do you think? Will I get anything other than a form letter telling me how much they care?

Single payer

To the editor:

A single-payer system should be our choice when it comes to health care.

My friends from Canada say they are delighted with their system. They need only appear at the doctor's office, and no questions are asked.

Only elective surgery requires a wait, and those who need emergency surgery get proper care.

I am disgusted with the lies and misinformation currently bombarding our citizens.

Clunker cash

To the editor:

Most restaurant owners will tell you that once couponing starts, the customer won't come in without one. The result is bigger crowds but lower profits, bigger losses.

The "cash for clunkers" program will train auto owners to hold onto that car for an extra year or two to gain the government bounty.

The result will be one group of taxpayers subsidizing another while car sales become more stagnant, as we now give many owners an incentive to wait.

Evil plot

To the editor:

Knight Allen's July 31 letter, "The cost of going green," shows how principled and altruistic he is. What he alludes to is how Sen. Harry Reid and Rep. Dina Titus want to create an energy famine.

Likewise, President Obama's plan is to create a Ukrainian Holodomor-type of energy famine in America.

America, beware of these politicians who are hell-bent on destroying us all.

    scott:

There are many, many things that Obama has done that I don't support.

There are too many to list here, but suffice it to say that my first act as President would have been to arrest both the minion of the devil formerly in the White House and his sidekick and spend lots of taxpayer dollars putting on a show trial.

However, having said that, lots of programs the President and his administration have instituted are good for the country.

Our economy is certainly improving and the signs are all around. If you read any of my most recent posts you will see that KEY indicators are improving; consumer confidence, consumer spending, construction, manufacturing, "TED" spreads, and I could go on.

These are all indicators that the economy is in a turnaround and most, if not every, economist today will tell you that they expect the U.S. economy to ACTUALLY grow in the next quarter at between 1-3% which is right next to a miracle considering that less than 6 months ago this country was on the verge of a real depression.

I asked the question earlier of another poster as to what they thought the country's economy would have looked like IF none of the programs, including the TARP, had passed, but I didn't get an answer.

I'm not surprised though because any rational person would have known that it would have been a disaster and no republican or non-Obama supporter would want to admit that the consequences of Obama doing what the republicans have done for over 8 years would have been horrible.

And, just a suggestion, the word is "democratic" as in "my democratic friends". "Democrat friends" is simply the "republicons" use of an inappropriate descriptive in a "childish" attempt to create friction.

    So you know.
