Since the club's inception, it has raised more than $250,000 for a number of charities, including The Shade Tree Shelter, Ronald McDonald House, Child Focus, and most recently, for Child Haven at the club's annual fashion show and fundraising luncheon held Nov. 3 at the J.W. Marriott.

"This is what we're all about," McNally said of the donation to Child Haven. "We work all year long to plan and organize a successful event that has become our club hallmark. While we have lots of fun at our fashion show and luncheon, it's really about what we're doing to help the community."

Other Summerlin Women's Club activities have included organizing blood drives and visiting patients at Summerlin Hospital. The club has also sponsored floats in Summerlin's Fourth of July parade.

According to Sue Bryan, a former Summerlin Women's' Club president and recipient of the Club's 2007 Award of Excellence, the club's charitable activities give the organization purpose and direction.

"We have fun working together for a good cause," she said. "Membership in the Summerlin Women's Club is fulfilling on many levels."

Bryan was recognized at the recent fundraising luncheon for her years of service to the organization, which includes a two-year term as president and securing significant donations.

According to Randy Ecklund, executive director of The Summerlin Council, the Summerlin Women's Club, helps build a strong community in many ways.

"Building community spirit and pride is equally as important as the physical building of a community," he said. "The Summerlin Women's Club is a living, breathing example of that community spirit at work."

Developed by The Howard Hughes Corp., an affiliate of General Growth Properties Inc., Summerlin began to take shape in 1990. It is a 22,500-acre master-planned community located along the western rim of the Las Vegas Valley.
