FIRST IN THE VALLEY: Pulte touts certified green homes

Builder's Timber Creek residences meet stringent efficiency standards

Pulte Homes debuted Southern Nevada's first certified green-built homes at a press conference Jan. 17 at the company's Timber Creek neighborhood in northwestern Las Vegas.

Three model homes in the neighborhood were awarded green-built certification by the Southern Nevada Green Building Partnership, a program the Southern Nevada Home Builders Association and the Green Building Initiative of Portland, Ore. designed to bring more environmentally sensitive home building to the area.

According to Pulte Homes, all of the subdivision's residences will be certified as green-built homes. The homes also quality for the city of Las Vegas Green Building Program and the Water Smart Home program administered by the Southern Nevada Water Authority and SNHBA.

Speakers at the press conference included Richard Dix, president of Pulte Homes-Nevada; Mayor Oscar Goodman, Las Vegas Councilman Steve Ross; SNHBA Executive Director Irene Porter and Patricia Mulroy, general manager of the Southern Nevada Water Authority.

"Together, we are here in our commitment to make Las Vegas a more environmentally friendly place to live," Dix said. "Pulte Homes is proud to be the first home builder in Southern Nevada to present a verifiable green-built home and to build an entire community to the specifications set forth by the Southern Nevada Green Building Partnership."

Very critical details when evaluating a 'green home'...something Pulte and the reporter failed to clarify. And what about the rest of the homes in this development? Which way do they face?
