Chef gets cookin' at San Mateo

When professional chef Richard Marmion moved back to Southern Nevada in September 2007, he immediately began his search for a home.

"I looked at a lot of resale homes and even some homes in foreclosure," said Marmion, an executive banquet chef for a major Las Vegas hotel. "Then I discovered San Mateo by Pardee Homes in Mountain's Edge. I got a great deal in a great location and Pardee made it simple to buy. In fact, this was the easiest home-buying process I'd ever experienced."

  • A native of Pittsburgh, Marmion lived in Las Vegas for nearly a decade before moving back to the East Coast in 2003. A few long winters and the promise of brighter career opportunities led him back to the Las Vegas Valley in 2007. He selected the Residence Three at San Mateo, which measures 1,823 square feet.

"I am so pleased with my house. It's a great floor plan with three bedrooms and a loft, and I like living in Mountain's Edge and seeing the mountains that define the community," he said.

Pardee Homes is selling the final homes and models at San Mateo with a limited number of residences remaining, including Residence One at home site 110, which measures 1,577 square feet with three bedrooms, 21/2 baths, two-car garage, cherry cabinets, granite kitchen countertops and prewiring for a home theater. It is priced at $259,656.

Also available is Residence Three at home site 53, which measures 1,823 square feet with four bedrooms, 21/2 baths, cherry cabinets, granite kitchen countertops, stainless-steel appliance package and pre-wiring for a home theater. It is priced at $281,970.

Pardee Homes recently celebrated the grand opening of Rosetta, which will replace San Mateo. Rosetta is a collection of two-story homes with three to four bedrooms, 21/2 to three baths and two-car garages in 1,444 to 1,881 square feet. Prices start from about $229,950 and the homes are enhanced with energy-efficient features as part of the builder's EnergySmart program.

To reach San Mateo and Rosetta at Mountain's Edge, take Blue Diamond Road west to Buffalo Drive and turn left into the Mountain's Edge community. Proceed south on Buffalo to Cactus Avenue, turn left and follow the signs to the neighborhood.

Sales offices and model complexes are open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, except Monday when they open at 11 a.m.
