Youth programs include Pee Wee, Youth Beginners and Junior Beginners, while adult clinics include Round Robin Doubles, Beginners, Sharpen Your Game and Learn & Play Mornings.

The Summerlin tennis program has flourished throughout the years, according to Brock Wilson, recreation supervisor for The Summerlin Council, the nonprofit arm of the Summerlin Community Association dedicated to enriching the community's social, educational and recreational offerings.

"The growing number of open play courts located throughout Summerlin has more than doubled during the last decade to accommodate the sport's popularity in the community," he said about Summerlin's nearly two dozen outdoor courts.

Home of the Summerlin Tennis Club, The Arbors Tennis & Play Park features five lighted courts, including one stadium court that accommodates spectators during tournament play.

Formed in 1999, the Summerlin Tennis Club offers members opportunities to participate on USA League Tennis teams as well as sanctioned Nevada Tennis Association tournaments. The club also hosts several tennis-oriented socials, which have been successful in attracting new players to the game.

All tennis programs in Summerlin are coordinated by Gordon Hammond along with The Summerlin Council.

In addition, the council oversees the care and maintenance of most of the community's existing lighted tennis courts located at The Hills Park, Ridgebrook Park, Spotted Leaf Park, The Gardens Park, The Vistas Community Park and The Arbors Tennis and Play Park. Additional courts are under construction at The Mesa Park, a 19-acre park scheduled to open this fall.

Developed by The Howard Hughes Corp., an affiliate of General Growth Properties Inc., Summerlin began to develop in 1990.
