"The real value is much greater than that," Andrews said. "It is neighbors helping neighbors to get back on their feet. That's why Pardee has been a strong supporter of the good works of HomeAid locally as well as nationally."

After meeting the families during a special housewarming event, Andrews said: "This has been one of the most meaningful projects undertaken in our 56 years of building homes, neighborhoods and communities in Southern Nevada."

The five families, which include eight children, have brand new apartments, complete with furniture from Pardee model homes, in a gated secure area of downtown Las Vegas.

The renovation took place over six weeks, with each unit being completely gutted and renovated with fresh paint, new bathtubs and toilets, new kitchens and cabinets, new flooring, new landscaping and new GE appliances.

Kathleen Dye, executive director of HomeAid Southern Nevada, praised Pardee Homes, their subcontractors and Newland Communities for their support of transitional housing for the growing numbers of temporarily homeless families in the Las Vegas Valley.

"The overall mission of HomeAid is to build dignified housing to allow homeless families and individuals to rebuild their lives," she said. "This is only made possible by great partners in the building industry."

Pardee also oversaw the $100 million renovation of St. Jude's Ranch for Children in Boulder City, for which the company received the 2008 Governor's Points of Light Award and the Hearthstone Humanitarian Award for Outstanding Philanthropy by a Homebuilding Company.

From donating land for schools and building parks in Pardee neighborhoods to supporting services for their less fortunate neighbors, community service is at the heart of Pardee Homes, Andrews said.

Pardee has focused its significant charitable efforts on homelessness, demonstrated by the company's support of The Shade Tree Shelter for Homeless Women and Children in Las Vegas as well as HomeAid efforts in Nevada and California.

Newland Communities provided an $11,000 grant to help make Project Building Hope at Adams Avenue a reality. Retained by the city of Las Vegas to manage and oversee development at Union Park, Newland is one of the country's largest privately owned development companies that create residential and urban mixed-use communities.

Lutheran Social Services of Nevada offers assistance to those in need.
