D.R. Horton records 150 sales last weekend

D.R. Horton of Las Vegas held The Builder Short Sale last weekend and has reported 150 home sales during the two-day event, according to sales manager Scott Harwood.

"The anticipation and excitement surrounding this event was astounding," he said. "We did not release pricing for this event until midnight on Jan. 23 and there were agents making calls at 1:28 a.m. You could feel the electricity in the air at every sales office. The response was overwhelming.

  • "We had people lined up at the door at 7 a.m., even though our sales office doesn't open until 10 a.m.," said June Casey, a sales agent at Riverwalk Crossing.

"This was the most fantastic sale I have ever been involved in. We sold 12 homes last weekend. I had families literally yelling and screaming and crying. (They) had been working with me for several months but couldn't afford the home they wanted prior to this event. To see their faces light up when they finally got to purchase one of our homes is the best feeling in the world. We are making a difference and I am so glad to be a part of it."

"I am hooked," said Amy Noto, sales agent at Cactus Crossing.

"It was a madhouse all weekend, at one point we were actually yelling out: 'Who wants lot 63?' And, a couple (would) yell, 'We want it.' The energy was amazing. We wrote 13 homes in two days. I am grateful I was able to experience this."

St. Rose Court sales agent Carla Hubay said, "It was a great feeling to help people realize the American dream. We sold 14 homes at St. Rose Court and buyers are getting a brand new home for less than what they were paying in rent. It was amazing, we had so much fun."

"We had a huge turn out. This is exactly what people have been waiting for," sales agent Lisa Bosco said. "This event could possibly signal the bottom of the market. Finally some good news."

"The amount of preparation for this event was tremendous," said Jeff Ward, director of sales and marketing.

"Not only did we substantially increase production for this event, we hired additional sales representatives in order to help respond to the immense amount of Realtor interest that we received.

"We also spent most of the holiday season realigning our business plan, thoroughly examining and renegotiating our construction costs in order to address the huge amount of 'pent-up' demand and satisfy home shoppers that have grown weary of trudging through abandoned, foreclosed and bank-owned properties.

"The Short Sale featured huge price reductions at our Las Vegas and Laughlin communities," Ward said.

"In most cases our pricing did not match that of a foreclosed home. However, the gap was narrowed considerably, with some homes being reduced by as much as $70,000."

D.R. Horton also has recently published a portfolio of its single-story homes, as well as a Las Vegas Home Finding Map.

Home shoppers may request these items through the builder's concierge at 501-6301, or online at DRHorton.com/lasvegas.
