LIVIN' ON THE EDGE: Meritage Homes blazes a trail

Builder offers flexible layouts in Summer Trail at Mountain's Edge

Meritage Homes' Summer Trail neighborhood offers floor plans with up to six bedrooms in a gated setting within Mountain's Edge, a master-planned community in the southwestern valley.

Along with selecting a home site and floor plan, buyers at Summer Trail can choose various structural variations that best suit their needs, sales agent Kelly Jones said.

"Our homes are extremely popular among buyers who want lots of space and the flexibility to configure rooms and architectural elements. People are stunned when they see how one floor plan can live so many different ways," Jones said. "Other buyers love the upgrades on the homes we've customized and they want to move in quickly. We have gorgeous choices for them, too."

Summer Trail's three floor plans offer 2,318 to 3,028 square feet. One plan includes a two-car garage; the others feature three-car tandem garages. Some home designs have a front porch, first-floor master suite and options for a covered patio, loft, den and master retreat. With great room layouts and traditional living, dining and family rooms available, buyers can choose the plan that speaks to their lifestyle and design tastes, Jones said.

Located on the southernmost border of Mountain's Edge, Summer Trail is home to a tortoise preservation.

"It's a really unique area that marries the untouched desert with the impressive amenities of Mountain's Edge," said Jones, noting the now-open Exploration Park and the playgrounds, fields and miles of planned trail systems under development.

Schools, professional offices, restaurants, boutiques and a grocery store are planned.

"Our residents love being tucked against the mountains, yet minutes from freeways, the Strip and some of the best shopping in Southern Nevada," Jones said. "We're just a bike ride away from Red Rock Canyon."

Two new programs, one with Paragon Pools and another with New Home Resource, are offered, Jones said.

"Our dig-and-hold program with Paragon Pools allows buyers to finance a pool within their home purchase," he said. "We expect the program to take off because it consolidates home construction and pool-area preparation."

Under the terms of the program, Paragon digs the pool during the home's construction phase and completes it after the homeowner closes, saving about half the time required for normal pool construction.

Home buyers not represented by a real estate agent can also utilize an easy move program offered through New Home Resource. The program allows a Summer Trail buyer to list his or her home with a real estate agent assigned by New Home Resource. The agent helps the Summer Trail buyer sell and close on the old home in a timely fashion, Jones said.

"Buyers appreciate the program because they receive 3 percent of the selling price of their old home in the form of a rebate," Jones said. "A moving company even packs and moves the home buyer to Summer Trail while a professional cleaning company readies the old house for new occupants."

Prices at Summer Trail start in the upper $300,000s.

Model homes are open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, except Monday when they open at 11 a.m.

To visit Summer Trail at Mountain's Edge, take Interstate 15 and exit at Blue Diamond Road. Go west on Blue Diamond to Buffalo Drive. Turn south on Buffalo and proceed past Mountain's Edge Parkway, following the signs to the community.
