"Child Haven creates an atmosphere of home for hundreds of children in need," said Gary Mayo, group president of Toll Brothers Nevada division. "Our goal is to make the first day of school a good memory for these children. With drop-off points throughout the Las Vegas Valley, we will make a difference in their lives."

Established in 1962, Child Haven is the Clark County-run shelter for abused, neglected or abandoned children. With residents as young as 3 days old up to 17 years old, Child Haven serves more than 5,000 children a year, with an average daily population of 100 children.

In addition to public contributions, Toll Brothers employees, vendors and subcontractors also are participating in the drive.

All donations will be transported by Toll Brothers directly to Child Haven's headquarters before the start of the academic year.

In addition to backpacks, needed items include personal hygiene products, art supplies, clothing and recreational items.

"Many of these items are the things we take for granted in our daily lives," Mayo said. "It's an honor for Toll Brothers to assist this worthy organization."

To participate in the drive, interested parties can visit Hidden Canyon Estates and Franklin Park and Madison Grove at Providence in the northwestern Las Vegas Valley; Vita Bella at Lake Las Vegas; Traccia and Fairway Hills in Summerlin; Inspirada, MacDonald Highlands, and Madera and Mirasol at Mountain's Edge in the foothills; and Toll Brothers' Design Studio at 1221 N. Town Center Drive in Summerlin.
