South Dakota retirees find warmth at Aliante

South Dakota retirees Lacey and Mark Shirey said they have children in Las Vegas and love the city's warm climate. That's why they choose to live here.

"We had been looking for quite a few years for just the right situation," Lacey Shirey said. "We loved the 'active active' aspect of the Sun City communities, plus we loved that we could have a home right on the Aliante Golf Club."

  • They purchased a Laurel floor plan that measures 1,576 square feet with two bedrooms and two baths.

"Del Webb builds such a solid house. They think of everything. There is not much for us to do, other than just enjoy it all," Lacey Shirey said. "Everything is quality. We love the big windows, the huge walk-in closet. It is all set up just right. When we did our walk-through, the customer service people covered everything -- absolutely everything. Even little things like how to keep the shower window clean, they were able to answer every question. It is just amazing how well they know the homes they build."

The age-qualified community offers seven floor plans, ranging from 1,155 to 2,105 square feet. Prices start from the mid-$200,000s.

Having lived in the community for just a few weeks, the Shireys said they became fully immersed in the Sun City and Aliante lifestyles right from the start. They are eager to join their neighbors for social activities in the community center. Already, they said they have taken in a few rounds at the golf course, and have identified some of their favorite nearby places to shop and eat.

They said they also enjoy how easy it is to visit their son, who lives in another Aliante neighborhood.

"There is everything out here. It is a total community with everything you could ever need. I cannot believe how amazing it is," Shirey said. "We're very active and this is a great area to be active, because everything is so close."

Amenities within the community include a social center with fitness facilities, billiards, card and hobby rooms, computer lab, swimming pool, lap pool and spa area, business center, tennis and bocce courts and a conference room. A series of landscaped and lighted trails connects the homes to the community center, golf course and the rest of Aliante.

A restaurant overlooking the golf course is adjacent to the community center within the golf club.

All of the homes at Sun City Aliante are constructed with Environments for Living building technology and include blown-in cellulose insulation, conditioned attic spaces, 15 Seasonal Energy Efficient Rating air-conditioning units and dual-paned, vinyl-framed, low-emittance windows.
