Summerlin boasts abundant cultural amenities, including Summerlin Library and Performing Arts Center and The Donald W. Reynolds Cultural Center, home to Nevada Ballet Theatre's rehearsal, teaching and administrative facility.

"Cultural amenities help to form the building blocks of any community," said Kevin Orrock, executive vice president of master-planned communities for The Howard Hughes Corp., developer of Summerlin. "Culture unites residents with common interests while adding beauty, diversity and energy to the community."

The Summerlin Library and Performing Arts Center, operated by the Clark County Library District, opened in 1993 -- just two years after the first residents moved into the community.

The 40,000-plus-square-foot center houses more than 130,000 volumes, an art gallery, conference rooms and a 291-seat performing arts center. Concerts, dance performances and plays are frequently presented in the performing arts center. Currently "The Wizard of Oz," a production of Broadway Bound, is running now through Feb. 4. Call 838-5131 for show and ticketing information.

The Donald W. Reynolds Cultural Center is a 36,000-square-foot facility housing six dance studios with pianos and spring floors, and a seventh studio with tap tiles that enhance acoustics. The building houses the professional company of Nevada Ballet Theatre, administrative and executive staff, Academy of Nevada Ballet Theatre, costume and scenery departments, a library and corporate board room.

Additional cultural facilities in Summerlin include more than a dozen houses of worship representing various faiths.

Summerlin also is home to the nation's largest collection of authentic stones that paved the streets of Poland's Warsaw Ghetto prior to its destruction in 1943. The stones are displayed in the Warsaw Ghetto Remembrance Garden at Temple Beth Sholom.

"An appreciation and respect for culture and art yields a zest for life," Orrock said. "We hope residents throughout the entire Las Vegas Valley have the opportunity to experience Summerlin's cultural offerings."

Summerlin began to take shape in 1990. National and regional studies have ranked it in the country's top 10 best-selling master-planned communities for nearly two decades.

Located along the western rim of the Las Vegas Valley, Summerlin encompasses 22,500 acres with about 7,500 acres still remaining to accommodate future growth within the master plan.

The community is home to nearly 100,000 residents.

Amenities include more than 150 neighborhood and village parks, more than 150 miles of the Summerlin trail system, 26 public and private schools, 14 houses of worship, nine golf courses, shopping centers, medical and cultural facilities, business parks and more than three dozen actively selling floor plans.

Homes are available in a variety of styles -- from single-family homes to townhomes, condominiums and lofts -- priced from the mid-$100,000s to more than $1 million.

Custom-home sites in The Ridges are priced from the high $200,000s. Luxury apartment homes offer monthly rents starting from the $800s.
