Activities aplenty will be held during King Week

The parade may be the public face of what's become known as King Week, but it's far from the only event honoring the late civil rights leader.

The 31st Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade will begin at 10 a.m. Monday in downtown Las Vegas, starting at Fourth Street and Gass Avenue and moving north on Fourth Street to Ogden Avenue. About 100 entries are expected to participate.

An NAACP education forum on the topics of teen suicide prevention and human trafficking is scheduled for 6 p.m. today at Pearson Community Center, 1625 W. Carey Ave.

The annual scholarship banquet will take place at 6 p.m. Saturday at The Orleans, 4500 W. Tropicana Ave. And a gospel e xtravaganza is set for 3 p.m. Sunday at Second Baptist Church, 500 Madison Ave.
