NFL wideout found beaten

Walker in fair condition after apparent robbery

NFL player Javon Walker was the apparent victim of a robbery in Las Vegas early Monday, but police did not confirm if the man found unconscious near the intersection of Winnick Avenue and Koval Lane was indeed the Oakland Raiders wide receiver.

Police said Walker sustained significant injuries. According to local Fox affiliate KVVU-TV (Channel 5), Walker suffered an orbital fracture and was taken to the trauma unit of Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center. He was listed in fair condition Monday afternoon. A Sunrise Hospital staff member contacted Monday evening said no one named Javon Walker was listed in the hospital's patient directory.

  • A Raiders spokesman said the team was "in the process of gathering information" and had no further comment.

Review-Journal columnist Norm Clarke reported that Walker had been spraying champagne into the crowd at Body English nightclub at the Hard Rock prior to him being found injured by police. He was at the nightclub for about six hours before leaving at 6:30 a.m., Clarke said.

Police found Walker at 7:19 a.m.

Clarke also reported it was the second night in a row Walker purchased bottles of Dom Perignon and sprayed a crowd at a night club. He did the same thing at Tryst at the Wynn early Sunday.

Walker signed a six-year, $55 million deal with the Raiders in March after being released by the Denver Broncos in February.

He injured his right knee for the second time in his career last season and was limited to eight games and 26 catches in 2007.

Walker was a first-round draft pick by the Green Bay Packers in 2001 and had a breakout season in 2004, with 89 catches for 1,382 yards and 12 touchdowns.

He tore a ligament in his right knee the next season and played only one game.

He was traded to Denver in 2006 and bounced back with 69 catches for 1,084 yards and eight touchdowns.

Sounds like this idiot is in the habit of pouring champagne on people. Got his butt kicked and robbed. Next.

So what's the big surprise here?

Amazing more of this isn't happening.
Or maybe we just don't hear about it unless it is someone "famous."

    Arghhh.

the ghost of desert inn, you're a first class buffoon. Do you not watch the news on New Year's Day when you find out some brain surgeon decided to climb a light pole then falls and breaks their neck? Those are not blacks doing things like that. You're a discrace to humanity with comments like these.

He wasn't robbed, we only took enough money and jewelry to cover our drycleaning expenses. It is fairly expensive to get champagne out of silk.

SeattleJosh wrote on June 17, 2008 01:03 PM: Being from Seattle and taking a trip or two each year to Vegas, I've been looking all over to find out exactly WHERE he was beaten. Winnick and Koval? WTF?!?

Why the hell would he be at Winnick and Koval at 6:30-7am? Buying drugs? Spraying bums in the alley with Cristal? That just seems like the place NOT to be, especially at that hour and most certainly with loads of cash and jewels on you.

    I don't get people sometimes...

cynical wrote on June 17, 2008 11:35 AM: Moods ola....you are absolutely correct. This society is messed up... think of how we spread our wealth, athletes and actors. Hollywood is the most forgiving environment I have ever seen, and look at the 'role models' (saracasm intended) that it has provided our kids. Sports? let's talk the Vick brothers.. anyone see young Marcus brush with the law in Virginia a few days ago? The thing I don't think people understand is that these people are getting rich off of our dollars.. $10 for a movie ticket? $50 for the worst seats at a sporting event? These people do not deserve the wealth thrown upon them. I know nothing of Walker, yet I have to ask.. does his wealth entitle him to spray champagne on people? If I did that, or any other regular joe, we'd be in jail. I can still hear the words "where have you gone Joe Dimaggio...?" Let's stop worshipping these athletes and actors/actresses..they spit in our face while taking our money.
