Louisiana State has scheduled its return to Tiger Stadium on Saturday to host North Texas, one week after postponing its game with Troy because of Hurricane Gustav.

LSU officials say they are confident Tiger Stadium will be ready by the weekend, but wanted to make sure the area would not be threatened by Hurricane Ike.

Ike appeared to be headed for the Texas coast Wednesday.

Also: Hurricane Ike has pushed back the Arkansas-Texas football game to Sept. 27.

The game had been set for Saturday in Austin.

The Stanford-Texas Christian game in Fort Worth on Saturday will be moved to noon from 6 p.m. CDT because of potential severe weather from Hurricane Ike.

Eddie Crowder, who spent nearly half a century at the University of Colorado as a football coach and athletic director, died Tuesday from complications of leukemia, the school said. He was 77.

Arthur, Chalmers fined for violating NBA policy

Former Kansas teammates Darrell Arthur and Mario Chalmers were fined $20,000 apiece after being banished last week from the NBA rookie symposium, the league said.

Security at the resort near New York where the event took place found Arthur and Chalmers in a room with two women, and the scent of marijuana was detected. No drugs or drug paraphernalia were found, but having guests in the room violated NBA policy, and the two rookies were sent home.

Arthur and Chalmers will have to attend the symposium again next year.

Also: The Boston Celtics have extended the contract of coach Doc Rivers, who led the team to its first championship in 22 years.

Rivers guided the Celtics to a 66-16 regular-season record and the franchise's 17th title last season. He is 168-160 in four seasons as Celtics coach.

Colorado State has given second-year coach Tim Miles a one-year contract extension. He is under contract through the 2012-13 season.

U.S. men gain victory in World Cup qualifier

Clint Dempsey scored his fourth goal in four games, and Michael Bradley and Brian Ching padded the margin as the United States beat Trinidad and Tobago 3-0 in Bridgeview, Ill., in World Cup qualifying.

The victory was the fifth straight by the Americans and virtually assures them of making next year's six-team regional finals.

Also: World champion figure skater Jeffrey Buttle is going out on top, announcing his retirement at age 26.

Buttle became the first Canadian to win the men's title since Elvis Stojko in 1997 when he won in March. He also was the bronze medalist at the 2006 Winter Olympics.

Henderson's Cortney Jordan just missed medaling in her third event of the 2008 Paralympics swimming competition when she finished fourth in the women's 100-meter backstroke in Beijing.

The 17-year-old Coronado High School student finished .27 seconds behind third-place finisher Chantal Boonacker, a Netherlands swimmer who was timed in 1 minute, 26.30 seconds. Australia's Katrina Porter won with a world-record time of 1:24.30.

Jordan won silver in the 100 freestyle and bronze in the 200 individual medley.

KLAS-TV (Channel 8) announced it will rebroadcast the U.S. Open men's tennis final this weekend. KLAS moved Monday's live broadcast from Channel 8 to its sister station, Las Vegas One, which is only available to Cox Cable subscribers.

The rebroadcast will be on KLAS at 11:40 p.m. Saturday.

The Affliction mixed martial arts card scheduled for the Thomas & Mack Center on Oct. 11 has been postponed.

No reason for the postponement was given.

Michael Cohen, chief operating officer of Affliction Entertainment, said the show will be rescheduled but probably not in Las Vegas.
