Fassel, who guided the Giants to a 60-56-1 record in seven seasons, said he's excited about the UFL opportunity and committed to the league.

"People ask me, will this enhance my chances of getting back into the NFL?" said Fassel, who last coached in 2006 as the Baltimore Ravens' offensive coordinator. "The fact is, I don't care (about that). I don't have any desires on doing anything else. ... I want to be here.

"And seeing the vision for the (UFL), I thought, 'Wow, this is awesome. This is going to be pure coaching.' I'm definitely looking forward to it."

Similar declarations were heard Wednesday from the other three UFL coaches, who all have lengthy NFL resumes: Dennis Green of San Francisco-Sacramento, Ted Cottrell of New York-Hartford and Jim Haslett of Orlando.

The UFL would not disclose the coaches' salaries. Fassel made $2.7 million in his final season with the Giants in 2003, three years after he led the team to Super Bowl XXXV.

"I never got into coaching because of money," he said.

UFL commissioner Michael Huyghue said Las Vegas' home games will be at Sam Boyd Stadium and that an announcement about Las Vegas' ownership group would be made in a couple of weeks.

Fassel, who said he has a staff in place, will have a 50-man roster to coach, and 45 will suit up for games. The league will assign 60 prospects to each franchise for fall training camp in Casa Grande, Ariz.

The UFL's first game will be Oct. 8 at AT&T Park in San Francisco, but no team schedules have been announced.
