Agassi Prep boys' 3-pointers overwhelm Mountain View

Agassi Prep's boys basketball team has relied on a dominant inside game to open league play undefeated.
If the Stars can continue to knock down perimeter jump shots like they did Saturday, it might make their post presence even more dangerous.
Agassi Prep made 11 of 20 3-pointers on its way to an 84-58 home win over Mountain View to stay unbeaten in the Class 2A Southern League.
"The scouting report for most teams is to shut down the inside," Agassi Prep senior forward Quincy Brown said. "It gives us a big advantage when we're out there hitting those shots. Teams have to spread their defense out, and they can't bunch the middle anymore."
The post players for Agassi Prep (9-3, 6-0) had their usual solid performances. Brown had 16 points, seven rebounds and two blocked shots, while center Anson Williams supplied 11 points and eight rebounds.
But the Stars also got a lift from swingmen Curtis Watson and Kalinn Jackson, who scored 18 points each.
The duo combined to hit seven 3-pointers. Watson hit three 3-pointers and totaled 13 points in the third quarter, when Agassi Prep used a 17-4 run to build a 55-26 lead.
"When we get in our offense and we're patient, we're more efficient," Stars coach William Hopkins said. "Our transition is not as good as I want it to be, but overall, I'm pleased."
Trevor Van Kempen shot 10-for-10 at the free-throw line on his way to 21 points for Mountain View (7-9, 2-3).
Alex Capozzoli added 15 points and freshman Matthew Larson 10 for the Saints.
Agassi Prep has won its first six league games by an average of more than 22 points per game and is holding opponents to a clip of less than 56 points in that span.
"We were just pressuring them," Brown said. "Our guards, I give them a lot of credit. We've got some tough guards in this conference, and I say, 'If you pressure them and play "D," we'll be all right.' "
Brown said the Stars are driven to surpass their breakout season of 2008-09, when he was a sophomore on a team that reached the 2A state title game.
"Going into the season, we wanted to sweep through our conference," he said. "We've got the talent and potential to beat everybody. We wanted to come out tonight and expand on it."

Two local high school basketball teams will play on national television on Monday as part of the Hoophall Classic in Springfield, Mass.
Bishop Gorman plays St. Patrick (N.J.) at 10 a.m., and Findlay Prep takes on Dallas Lincoln at noon.
Both games are scheduled to be broadcast on ESPNU (320).
Findlay Prep is ranked No. 6 nationally by Rivals.com and No. 7 by ESPN Rise. Lincoln is No. 18 according to Rivals.com and No. 13 in the ESPN Rise rankings.
Gorman is ranked No. 69 by Rivals.com and No. 47 by ESPN Rise. St. Patrick is No. 4 in the Rivals.com rankings and No. 2 according to ESPN Rise.
