ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- A.J. Hardeman scored five of his nine points to kick-start a 13-2 run that propelled New Mexico to a 48-38 victory over Wyoming on Saturday.
Kendall Williams led New Mexico (20-4, 6-2 Mountain West) with 10 points, Drew Gordon had 13 rebounds and Hardeman grabbed eight.
Francisco Cruz scored 14 for the Cowboys (18-6, 4-4), who had only four players score.
The teams combined to hit just 30 field goals and shot a combined 31.6 percent from the field.
The game turned on the run that Hardeman started with the Lobos trailing 25-21 early in the second half. Jamal Fenton's deep 3-pointer at the 9:40 mark capped the surge, leaving New Mexico with a 34-27 lead that it would not relinquish.
Although the Cowboys twice got within two points late in the game, Williams and Hugh Greenwood each went 4-for-4 from the line in the closing 1:12 to help preserve the victory.
Wyoming had an early 16-11 lead as Cruz hit three of his four 3-pointers, but New Mexico used an 8-0 run to take a 19-16 lead.
The Cowboys responded with a 7-0 run to take a 23-19 halftime advantage.
The Lobos finished with a 43-31 rebounding edge. New Mexico's depth proved to be crucial, with a 14-0 scoring advantage from the bench.
Wyoming also couldn't get to the free-throw line, going 5 of 8 while the Lobos went 13 of 23.
■ Texas Christian 75, Colorado State 71 -- At Fort Worth, Texas, Craig Williams scored 20 points, including a pair of key free throws in the closing minutes, to help the Horned Frogs slip past the Rams.
Williams, Kyan Anderson and former Valley High standout Hank Thorns each converted two free-throw attempts in the final 1:36 for TCU (14-10, 4-4).
Wes Eikmeier scored 26 points for Colorado State (15-8, 4-4).
■ Boise State 72, Air Force 61 -- At Air Force Academy, Colo., Joe Hanstad's 19 points and Anthony Drmic's double-double led the Broncos past the Falcons as Boise State claimed its first MWC win.
Drmic had 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Broncos (11-12, 1-7) as Boise State handed interim Falcons coach Dave Pilipovich a loss in his debut following Jeff Reynolds' ouster Wednesday.
Michael Lyons led Air Force with 24 points, and Todd Fletcher dished out a career-best nine assists, but they couldn't prevent the Falcons (11-11, 1-7) from losing their seventh straight game since beating Boise State on the road Jan. 14.
