Local volleyball tourney features top national clubs

Nine local high school volleyball teams will have the chance to measure themselves against top competition this weekend in the Durango Fall Classic tournament.

The two-day event begins Friday at Durango, Foothill and Green Valley.

Six teams ranked in the Maxpreps.com national top 25 will compete, including top-ranked Archbishop Mitty of San Jose, Calif.

Silverado, Bishop Gorman, Las Vegas, Centennial, Coronado, Green Valley, Shadow Ridge, Foothill and Durango are the local entrants.

The field of 48 teams includes schools from California, Alaska and Hawaii. La Costa Canyon (Calif.) returns to defend its title.

The championship match is scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday at Durango.
