The UNLV basketball team, coming off a big Mountain West Conference home victory over San Diego State on Saturday, climbed to No. 11 in both The Associated Press media poll and ESPN/USA Today coaches' poll released Monday.

The Rebels (22-4) had been ranked 14th and 16th, respectively, last week, prior to their 65-63 win over the Aztecs (20-4) at the Thomas & Mack Center. It was the Rebels' only game of the week

UNLV and San Diego State are tied with New Mexico for first place in the league with 6-2 records. The Rebels play at Texas Christian on Tuesday night.

UNLV sophomore forward Mike Moser also was named Mountain West Conference Player of the Week Monday following his team-high 19-point, game-high nine-rebound effort against the Aztecs. Moser also recorded career-highs of six steals and four blocked shots while adding two assists in 36 minutes of play. With 40 seconds left in Saturday's game and San Diego State holding a 63-62 lead, Moser stripped the Aztecs' Xavier Thames on a drive into the lane. The loose ball went to Rebels teammate Anthony Marshall, who took it the length of the court to score the go-ahead basket.

The top three teams in the AP and coaches' polls were the same this week: Kentucky (25-1), Syracuse (25-1) and Missouri (23-2). Kansas (20-5) was No. 4 and Duke (21-4) No. 5 in the AP ranking with the two teams switched in the coaches' poll.

Native-Nevadan....lived in San Diego many years. Enjoyed it tremendously. Back in Nevada. LV is my playground. Best of both worlds. Both teams ranked and doing well. Go Aztecs! Go Rebels! Nice to have teams to root for!!!

AztecFan (the broken record one) has nothing to say now. But having spent some formative years in SD, I feel I should clarify something. Vegas is more illegal infested than SD... They still have a Border Patrol presence there, and you don't see Pedro hanging out at Home Depot and U-Haul.

Overheard employees in Star Nursery today talking about the Rebels being ranked #11. Great Rebel buzz in this town.

I have to give props to UNLV. They took it to the Aztecs on Saturday. We made it close at the end, but UNLV controlled the game. Congrats to the winners and the probable champs of the MWC. Go Rebels. Represent the conference well in the NCAA Tournament!!!!

Also, to all my other asstec fans:

What a joke we are. Just remember that when all is said and done we still have to live in that dump called San Diego. A second rate minor league town that is the illiegal immigrant and crime capital of the world!!! REBELS OWN THE MTN WEST!!! UNLV, UNLV, UNLV!!! REBEL POWER!!! UNLV RULES!!! San Diego is a dump!!!
