The owners of Republic Kitchen and Bar say they have added a few twists to the concept of a family-friendly restaurant that serves upscale yet approachable cuisine.
The name of the restaurant, which opened in September at 9470 S. Eastern Ave., refers to its menu: Food for the people, says co-owner Jeff Kovatch. The focus is on American bistro-style dishes with a touch of flair, such as lobster potpie.
Plasma televisions around the bar and dining room broadcast sports while upstairs, in the Loft, diners can enjoy one of 20 board games or play Wii on a 55-inch plasma TV.
The dining room seats 110 with an additional 40 seats on the patio. The Loft seats 80. Reservations are not required. The restaurant is open Mondays through Fridays, 11 a.m.-2 a.m.; Saturdays and Sundays, 9 a.m.-2 a.m. All-you-can-eat brunch is served on Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Might be great food, but what an unfortunate marketing blunder. Republic is the name of the local garbage company. Not a very appetizing name for a restaurant.
